The Nursing Consortium of Florida helps those interested in contributing to a stronger nursing workforce or honoring a nurse or former nurse with a one-time restricted or unrestricted contribution or a longer-term pledge, to target their investment toward the greatest opportunity to make a measurable difference.
The national and international nursing shortage has been well publicized but those who might contribute to addressing the nursing shortage in their communities by helping to develop a stronger nurse workforce, have too few ready options for investing in targeted and measurable interventions.
The Consortium has a deep understanding of the factors contributing to the nursing shortage in Florida and the weakening of the nursing workforce generally. We are therefore well positioned to direct funds to projects and programs that can make the greatest difference and that combine philanthropic contributions to other funds or in-kind support to amplify the beneficial impact of a gift.
A recent example of donor assistance is the service we provided to a family desiring to fund a multi-year scholarship to honor the service of an elderly relative; the longest licensed nurse in Florida and a pioneer and innovator in the long-term care industry. Understanding the honoree’s legacy, the Consortium developed a multiyear scholarship program to award a series of recipients a tuition scholarship to a one-year practical nursing program at a state college that leveraged additional funding to cover the cost of books and fees, and created a partnership with an area hospice care provider that agreed to offer part-time employment to the scholarship recipients with greater employment opportunities, including greater pay and a benefits package that includes educational assistance, after successful completion of the initial program and licensure. The five-year scholarship+ program will enable five individuals to get a solid start in the nursing profession.
The Nursing Consortium of Florida is nursing’s community table where the profession’s leaders build on a long legacy of uncommon collaboration, to conduct effective youth outreach and develop and evolve programming that promotes careers in nursing.
