Although salaries vary widely depending on the city and state you live in, the amount of nursing experience you have, your educational background and the type of facility where you’d work, nursing salaries are improving.

Current hospital base salaries range from $40,000 to start and can go as high as $75,000 with experience. Add to this any premiums for working extra shifts, weekends, and overtime and the total cash compensation of nurses can easily increase by an additional $10,000.

Nurses also are usually eligible for free tuition and excellent benefits package including four to seven weeks time-off per year, medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance and employer contributions to pension and 401(k) plans.
